Hafertepe Begins Lucas Oil ASCS Title Defense At Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals

Bryan Hulbert – SUNNYVALE, Texas (March 12, 2019) Returning for the second season behind the wheel of the Hills Racing Team No. 15h, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. will kick off his run at a fourth consecutive Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network National Tour title this Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at the 46th annual Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals.

Going into the 2019 season, however, the pressure is no more than normal as Sam’s mindset is still the same as ever with a goal of focusing on every night as it comes and leaving the points to take care of itself.

“We’ve done this long enough and have been pretty successful and learned how to attack it. The first year was all new and we didn’t know we could win races like that. The second year it got a little more normal, then last year we came back the same, and this year we feel even better. The team is more developed going into this season and the equipment is a little bit better where everything just gels. We’re not building anymore so now we are able to focus on racing more than anything”

Taking in some laps this past weekend during a practice session at the Devil’s Bowl, Hafertepe stated they made very little changes through his runs with the track racing much as he anticipated.

“It’s the same old place but it always seems to race the same. We felt really comfortable this past weekend and I feel like we’re going to be in the hunt come showtime.”

Mentoring Alex Hill for a third season with the Hills Racing Team, Sam is confident of Alex’s progression behind the wheel as the team has a solid foundation in place for her to continue to improve.

“It’s all about finding what works for you as a driver, and we’ve really figured out what she likes and is comfortable with. Daryl pretty much takes care of her and her car, so that lets me really just watch and see what she’s doing.”

Friday, March 15 and Saturday, March 16 at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway get underway at 8:00 P.M. (CT). Tickets and information can be found online at http://www.devilsbowl.com. Live coverage is available online at http://www.racinboys.com.
