Bryan Hulbert – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (May 15, 2018) Getting back to form this past week, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. ended a three-race run with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com with his first National Tour triumph of the season at I-30 Speedway on Saturday night.

“That comes down to just clearing my head and focusing on driving,” explained Hafertepe of the win.

“I was frustrated after Lakeside because nine times out of ten, we would have won the race starting where we did. We were good, but we didn’t finish it. We didn’t work on the car for the feature like we should have and Humboldt, we just struggled.”

Sixth at Humboldt Speedway to start the three-race run, Sam rolled into Lakeside Speedway with plenty of speed. Putting the Hills Racing Team No. 15h on the front row, Sam slipped to a fifth-place finish.

“We left out of Humboldt and Lakeside, I just put my focus on driving the car and stopped worrying about everything else and that was the biggest thing for me, was the mental aspect of it. Just getting back to where I need to be in the car, so Saturday, my whole goal was to just drive the car.”

Winning from the fifth starting spot ahead of Sammy Swindell and Tim Crawley, the win is Hafertepe’s second overall triumph of the 2018 season.

“I went back to some notes and things that I was doing last year, and it paid off. We’re still not where we need to be, but we’re getting there. As soon as the race was done, I had notes on things we need to change and things to work on.”

Rolling out of Little Rock tied for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com point’s lead, Sam is taking the next few weeks to test and balance the car.

“No matter where we go, we’re going to test and get laps. Where we go depends on the weather so this weekend, we may go to Knoxville or race with ASCS at Creek and Lawton. We have National Tour races coming up at both, but it all depends on which one looks like the best opportunity to race.”
