Hafertepe Jr. Scores Runner-Up Result at Red River Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Sept. 1, 2015) – Sam Hafertepe Jr. powered to a runner-up result last Friday at Red River Speedway during an ASCS Red River Region event.
“We were pretty good,” he said. “The track was right around the top on the cushion. There were a lot of guys who couldn’t run it right and we had a lot of lapped traffic. We dealt with a lot of lapped cars and guys who were trying to pass us throughout the feature.”
Hafertepe Jr., who maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race to open the night with car owner Keith Dobbs, made some early moves to put himself in contention during the main event. He quickly advanced from his seventh starting position into third place before taking over second approximately a third of the way through the 25-lap race.
“Once we had a caution we had four lapped cars between me and Johnny (Herrera),” he said. “I cleared all those guys and then we had a caution at the end with no lapped cars between us. With the track being around the top it was hard to do anything. If we could have got back to lapped traffic with me right behind him we may have had a chance, but he was pretty good as well.”
Hafertepe Jr. hung on to second place, which marked his fourth top five of the season and third with Dobbs.
That was the only race of the weekend as Saturday’s ASCS Red River Region event at Abilene Speedway in Abilene, Texas, was cancelled because of the weather.
Hafertepe will return to competition this Friday and Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, for the 14th annual Gulf South Championship Weekend with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
“There will be quite a few guys down there,” he said. “We normally have a lot of speed there. With Keith’s car we’ve been learning it more and more every night. I think we’re finally getting to a point where we know what the car needs. I feel like we’re getting better and better with the operation and we are one of the guys to beat.”
